Fire Department GlenviewGlenview Fire Department Mechanically InclinedFire Administration
The Glenview Fire Department is an all hazards agency that responds to a wide variety of fire, technical rescue, and emergency medical calls in the Village of Glenview, the Village of Golf, and the Glenbrook Fire Protection district. The department operates from 5 fire stations responding to over 8000 calls annually.
A career in the fire service is an exciting one. What firefighters like most about the career is the wide variety of emergency and non-emergency incidents that they respond to. From one day to the next personnel never know what type of emergency they may be called to. It could be as complex as a structure fire, hazardous materials incident, auto accident, heart attack, or trench rescue. The department responds to other, less hazardous incidents like smoke and odor investigations, power related problems, and carbon monoxide investigations.
What does it take to become a firefighter? You have to attend a fire academy and become a state certified firefighter prior to working on shift. Once hired, you will also train to become a certified paramedic, a program that takes approximately two years to complete. When that is complete you have the opportunity to take many different certification classes offered throughout the area to advance your career.
